Round 3 of the Championships at Heathcote

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Cary @ 3:53 pm

The third & final round of the RSL Club Champioships was on Sunday out at Heathcote. We finally got decent weather with a perfect day for golf. It didn’t start too well for one of the guys in my playing group, he had a fresh airy followed by a squirter. It didn’t get any better with his next couple of shots, hitting the toilets then going out of bounds. I couldn’t get anything at all going on the day with way to many 7’s on my card. On the last hole I put 2 balls out of bounds to finish with a 10 :( Neil bounched back from his last outing shocker to shoot the best net score for B grade but couldn’t real in the eventual winner Jan. Congratulations Jane :)

Whittlesea on the 20th of July

Filed under: Miscellaneous, Reviews — Cary @ 10:49 am

I had an RDO on Monday & got a knock on my door at 12 o’clock. It was Stuart asking if I was up for 9 holes of golf. Of course I had to consider my options, play golf or mow the lawns. This may shock you but I choose to play golf :) As with Sunday the wind was up a bit but no where near as bad. This was the first time I had been up to Whittlesea since thier clubhouse burnt down. You will be happy to know the course is still open & they have a couple of portables set up to use as a temporary clubhouse.

They are still badley in need of water at Whittlesea but thankfully there appears to be a tiny bit more in the dams than the last time I played here. The big dam which plays a main part in the par 5 4th is still pretty much dry, there is a small amoutn of water collecting at one end but not enough to be in play. The fairways are still dry but no worse than they normally are up here. The greens were in great condition. As I mentioned we only played the front 9 but from what we played, Whittlesea is good condition considering everything that has happened here in the last 6 months.

I’m a slackass

Filed under: Miscellaneous, Updates — Cary @ 4:29 pm

Sorry for not posting anything lately I’m been a real slackass. Nothing much of note is going on. Neil & I have had a couple of lesson out at Yarrambat with Luke. I’m sure what he is teaching me will come right soon but at the moment I’m all over the joint. Neil is coming along nicely, his hook seems to nearly gone, it raises it’s head every now & then but :) We went up & played at Heathcote with Epping RSL last weekend, perfect day for golf. Bus left at 6:30 & we had our first beers 7, makes for a long day ;)

I’m wanting to get a round together out at Whittlesea soon so if you are intersted let me know.

Cheers

Golf Joke

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Cary @ 6:10 pm

A Catholic Priest, an Indian Doctor, a rich Chinese Businessman and an Aussie were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers in front of them.

The Aussie fumed, ‘What’s with those blokes? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!’

The Indian Doctor chimed in, ‘I don’t know, but I’ve never seen such poor golf!’

The Chinese Businessman called out ‘Move it, time is money’

The Catholic Priest said, ‘Here comes George the greens keeper. Let’s have a word with him.’

‘Hello, George!’, said the Catholic Priest, ‘What’s wrong with that group ahead of us? They’re rather slow, aren’t they?’

George the greens keeper replied, ‘Oh, yes. That’s a group of blind fire fighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime.’

The group fell silent for a moment.

The Catholic Priest said, ‘That’s so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight.’

The Indian Doctor said, ‘Good idea. I’m going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there’s anything he can do for them.’

The Chinese Businessman replied, ‘I think I’ll donate $50,000 to the fire-fighters in honour of these brave souls’

The Aussie said, ‘Why can’t they frigging play at night?’

The New Mother energy drink

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Cary @ 3:52 pm

Call me a corporate shill, I don’t care. I had a box of the new & improved Mother energy drink delivered to my house & asked to taste it & put a review on the website. It was free so I had nothing to lose. I must say I didn’t mind it at all. The flavour was not terible, which is a step up from the old one. I have handed a few of them out so anyone I’ve given them to can you drop a comment on this post. Just as another point, I love the new add campaign :) The whole hunting down the people who designed the old Mother, brilliant.

It’s been too long!!

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Cary @ 2:26 pm

It’s been a while since we have been out for a hit. I was planing on going out last weekend but the weather forcast put the kybosh on that. You feel like a real pratt hoping that the weather will get better when we are such desperate need of the rain :)

If anyone out there wants to have a hit, count me in. My swing will probably be like a rusty gate but who cares.

Something to consider

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Cary @ 2:51 pm

In 1923, Who Was:

1. President of the largest steel company?

2. President of the largest gas company?

3. President of the New York Stock Exchange?

4. Greatest wheat speculator?

5. President of the Bank of International Settlement?

6. Great Bear of Wall Street?

These men were considered some of the world’s most successful of their days. Now, 80 years later, the history book asks us, if we know what ultimately became of them.

The Answers:

1. The president of the largest steel company.
    Charles Schwab,died a pauper.

2. The president of the largest gas company,
    Edward Hopson,went insane.

3. The president of the NYSE,
Richard Whitney, was released from prison to die at home.

4. The greatest wheat speculator,
    Arthur Cooger, died abroad, penniless.

5. The president of the Bank of International Settlement,
    shot himself.

6. The Great Bear of Wall Street,
    Cosabee Livermore, also committed suicide

However, in that same year, 1923, the PGA Champion and the winner of the most important golf tournament, the US Open, was Gene Sarazen. What became of him? He played golf until he was 92, died in 1999 at the age of 95.He was financially secure at the time of his death.

The Moral:
Fuck work.
Play golf.
